Tomorrow I try speed dating. Not a step I ever thought I would be taking. I've joined some online dating sites, even paid for the pleasure and sent a ton of email messages. The "hey look at me, lets talk" routine isn't yielding any hits. None that have showed up anyway.
I am looking forward the speed dates. There is something exciting about getting ready for a date, multiple dates that aren't going to last too darn long. Imagine not stressing out about if you picked a hip enough place for a first meeting? You don't have to make sure your safe and that your whole family knows how to contact you in case your meeting a psycho. What to eat isn't a concern as your going at a non meal time. Best of all you only need about half of 8 minutes of "material". So what to say in half of 8 minutes and what to wear is "stressing" me out in a very enjoyable way.
Now about that outfit....I am lucky I know how to dress my body. I'm realistic. I know jeans, no matter how spendy, aren't going make the size any different. I'm a nice sized woman, not snack sized. Still I looked in my closet and I discovered a simple fate awaited me. I know how to nicely dress my 3 course body for work. Not going out. This should not come as a surprise as I don't go "out". Ding dong...Nordstroms calling.
My mom took my daughter on a tour of the store while I tried on outfits. I settled on cute butt black jeans. Which immediately disqualified my navy blue trendy jacket and pink blouse sitting at home. Luckily I found a beautiful blouse that didn't say "I'm old and big". Now I had an outfit. Looking good we left for the next "treatment".
3 hours later we emerged from the hair salon. When I say we I mean my daughter, my mom and my sister. We all were cut, colored and nails painted. During our hours there I had enough time to check the Nordstrom receipt, the blouse was going back to the store. I realized I had a perfect shirt/jacket in my closet. My daughter was a trooper. It only took 2 suckers, 5 trips to the bathroom, 1 soda and a walk to the toy store to get through it all. Now I a new hair color and red sparkly nails.
Did you know there are many web sites devoted to giving advice on speed dating? Yes, there are a billion. I should be prepared with questions to ask and have a brief life history planned. Hm....wonder how it will go without a plan?
